TODAY: Light Snow From Dakotas into Upper Midwest, Rain Expands Across Missouri and Illinois

Today's Weather Summary:

Much of the Midwest will spend daylight hours today between storm systems. The sun is shining and should continue to do so here in Champaign, Illinois and across much of the rest of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio on what is a cooler day compared to yesterday, but probably much more enjoyable than yesterdays mild, damp vibes.

Light snow slides out of the Dakotas and into parts of the Upper Midwest this afternoon and evening. A corridor of 1"-3" is possible from eastern South Dakota into southern Minnesota, far northern Iowa, and eventually southern Wisconsin.

While precipitation totals will be light, it's possible the Chicago metro and parts of northern Illinois could wake to an annoyingly slick wintry mix tomorrow morning - perhaps plan on getting an early move on the Wednesday morning commute in the Windy City.

Light rain expands across Missouri into central and southern Illinois late today into tonight where precipitation totals should be on the light side, only a trace to a couple tenths of an inch. Heavier rain and a strong storm or two is possible further south near the Ohio River.

Looking ahead, another round of accumulating snow is headed for portions of Minnesota and Wisconsin on Thursday, with several inches of accumulation and a potentially disruptive snowfall possible.

Brain Dump:

Temperatures in the Midwest are going to be on an absolute rollercoaster ride through the end of the month. We'll gradually slip into a colder pattern regionally through the coming weekend, but a flip toward an unseasonably mild pattern immediately follows next week. Check out the 8-14 day temperature forecast below!
