The "Illinois warm front" lore runs deep in the storm chasing and meteorology community, but it's also prone to big busts. On Friday, April 3rd a warm front would be lifting north across central Illinois but forcing was rather nebulous and it wasn't terribly obvious when and where the potential for a tornadic supercell may be the highest.
I drifted west from Champaign-Urbana and intercepted a pair of tornado warned supercells, one of which produced a tornado near the town of Hopedale, Illinois, though it spun up and appeared close to tornadogenesis many times!
