4 Years Later | Looking Back at the December 10th, 2021 Tornado Outbreak

Well, looking back at it from my own point of view, anyway. There are a handful of dates over the last 10-15 years where I felt like my hometown of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois could be staring at a potential weather disaster, and December 10th, 2021 was one of those dates.

The whole experience felt like a fever dream on my end. I was traveling for work for the first time since the pandemic shut things down and flew back home from Sioux Falls, South Dakota at like Midnight the day of the tornado outbreak. I landed as a thick fog spread into Champaign-Urbana as deep moisture crept back into the Midwest.

Later that night, Reginald Hardwick and I provided several hours of uninterrupted live coverage as deadly tornadoes tracked through the region.
